JH Rowswell Barrington Banana Shallot seed trial 2009

In February 2009 a total of 400 Banana Shallots were planted in our glasshouse, in order to harvest the seed.
To help with pollination we- removed two square panes of glass in May to allow access to bee’s and insects etc, this proved successful as a considerable quantity were observed by me.

In July the heads were removed and placed in open plastic trays and allowed to dry naturally, the trays were shaken each day and seed was cleaned and counted.
A germination trial was conducted with 80% success.
Approx 500,000 seeds were harvested, calculated at 1000 seeds per 3 grams in weight
